Intend to Study Abroad :: College Admissions Essays

I Intend to Study Abroad  On one blistering pre-fall day when I was in secondary school, my folks returned from a shopping trip with an unexpected present for me: the amazing prepackaged game, Diplomacy. From the outset I laughed at such a good old game. Who might need to squander great radiant days moving armed forces around a guide of pre-World War I Europe, professing to be Bismarck or Disraeli? In any case, in the wake of playing the game once, I turned out to be totally gripped by the subtleties of statecraft, and before long started losing rest as I attempted to create smart strategic tricks, bring forth shrewd plans, and better comprehend the game's ever-evolving elements. As my companions and I went through the second 50% of the late spring consumed by the game, my folks smiled intentionally. How might I oppose being entranced with Diplomacy, they asked me, when I perpetually found out about global undertakings, and preferred just discussing legislative issues over supper? How might I oppose being int erested, when I had burned through the majority of my summers in Greece (and, significantly more quickly, France and England), seeing direct the manners by which nations contrast socially, socially, and strategically?  In spite of the fact that my enthusiasm for international strategy and worldwide undertakings without a doubt goes back to secondary school, I never got the opportunity to completely build up this enthusiasm before school. When I showed up at Harvard, in any case, I found that I could find out about global relations through both my scholastics and my extracurricular exercises. Scholastically, I chose to gather in Government, and, inside Government, to take classes that explained the powers fundamental the relations of states on the world stage. The absolute generally critical of these classes included Human Rights, in which we examined what job philanthropic concerns should play in universal relations; Politics of Western Europe, in which I found out about the social, financial, and political improvement of five significant European nations; and Causes and Prevention of War, which concentrated on uncovering the underlying foundations of contention and discovering how carnage could ha ve been dodged. As of now, for my senior theory, I am examining the weird example of American human rights-based intercession in the post-Cold War time, and attempting to figure out which illustrative factors are best ready to represent it.  Strangely, I feel that I have learned in any event as much about worldwide relations through my extracurriculars in school as I have through my classes.

The Protestant Reformation And Martin Luther Religion Essay

The Protestant Reformation And Martin Luther Religion Essay The hour of the Protestant Reformation was a period of extraordinary change in western culture. The Roman Catholic Church would see its power tested in a manner that was remarkable and the world would take the stand concerning the start of numerous strict quarrels and contentions, some of which live on right up 'til today. The underlying foundations of the development lie in a few distinct thoughts that began to spread among the average folks of Europe, beginning in around 1500. Individuals started to accept that they could get to the finesse of God through an individual relationship with him, without the need of the Church and its specialists as a middle person. Numerous no longer considered the To be as Gods right hand man, yet rather as a strict profiteer who thought considerably more about creation cash than about watching out for the profound needs of his devotees. A sentiment of anticlericalism was rapidly spreading all through the land. In light of the recently discovered profound arousing experienced by many, Europe started to see new strict instructors and gatherings spring up everywhere. The Christian Humanists, Sir Thomas More, Erasmus, and numerous others assisted with spreading the new development with their lessons, anyway out of all the incredible researchers of the Reformation, there are two who stand apart more than some other. The lessons of Martin Luther and John Calvin resound even today and they are as yet held up as saints of Christianity by many. Martin Luther was without a doubt the most tireless and best of the considerable number of reformers of his time. He tested the Church uproariously and straightforwardly and would not withdraw over what he saw as both incredible mistakes in teaching and extraordinary disappointments in otherworldliness. Luthers most significant instructing started from his very own encounters before he started his battle against the Roman Church. He had consistently battled with his own apparent wickedness and would never see how he could accomplish anything besides the fury from a fair God. In any case, the course reading reveals to us that in an occasion known as the involvement with the pinnacle Luther came to comprehend that Gods kindness would concede him salvation. From that point on, Luther instructed that the expulsion of wrongdoing and offering of nobility must be gotten by confidence in God, or avocation by confidence. In 1517 Luthers lessons started to target the Church. It began when a minister started offering extravagances to the townspeople of Wittenberg, where Luther was inhabiting the time. Luther saw the individuals of his town be misled out of their cash by the individuals who should help, by their strict pioneers. This occasion filled Luther with an enthusiastic displeasure and on October 31, 1517 he gave his most well known work, his ninety-five propositions. This work showed another of Luthers most significant lessons, that the Pope just had power to give an exoneration on the disciplines that he had perpetrated. For the following twenty years Luther would keep on distributing a greater amount of his compositions, helping him to extend and refine his lessons. He would educate for an incredible remainder his most significant message, that it was not through benevolent acts, the seven holy observances, or an extravagance that one accomplished salvation, however through confidence alone. Luther likewise demanded that the Bible was the unparalleled expression of God and that it was the final word on Christianity. He would back up his conclusion on this by enthusiastically working for quite a long time making an interpretation of the book of scriptures into German and attempting to make it open to all individuals with the goal that they could peruse and decipher it for themselves. At last, Luther consolidated into his new Church just two of the seven ceremonies of the Catholic Church, immersion and the Lords Supper, anyway he questioned the Churchs guarantee that the Priest played out a marvel and transubstantiation happened. John Calvin was likewise an incredible educator of the Reformation. While Luther had just gotten the show on the road, by the 1530s, Calvin was additionally making incredible commitments to the new conviction framework. In contrast to Luther, Calvin was likewise an extraordinary coordinator and worked at instructing the individuals his thoughts as well as at making another Church. Calvins lessons resembled Luthers without a doubt, and, similar to Luther, he additionally had an extraordinary encounter he alluded to has unexpected change that set him on the course of strict work for an incredible remainder. Like Luther, Calvin emphatically accepted that it was by confidence alone that one could win salvation. He likewise fused just the submersion and Lords Supper into his lessons, hurling aside the other five holy observances of the Catholic Church. Be that as it may, Calvin likewise had his own thoughts regarding a few parts of Christianity. For example, Calvin had confidence in the possibility of destiny. As indicated by the content, in contrast to Luther, who accepted that individuals could be foreordained for salvation, however not for condemnation, Calvin saw no difference. Calvin accepted that individuals were fated by God for both salvation and punishment, and that nothing should be possible in ones life to change that destiny, yet that they ought to be a ppreciative for Gods just choice in any case. Calvin was additionally, as said prior, an incredible coordinator. He went through the most recent twenty years of his life working day and night to assemble his Church. This is another region where Calvin and Luther contrasted. Where Luther just necessitated that chapels acknowledge his lessons of legitimization by confidence and the Bible as the expression of God, and permitted them to keep some other customary Church rehearses, Calvin was a lot stricter. Calvin got rid of the extravagances of the customary mass, disposing of trimmings, singing, and different things he saw as paltry, in favor all the more plain and negligible lesson. Calvin likewise held his adherents to a harsh code of ethics. The course book discloses to us that Calvin restricted unimportant exercises like moving for steady self-assessment. At long last, on account of his Institutes of the Christian Religion, his composed work that he kept refining throughout the previous thirty years of his life, his supporters had a spot to turn for any inquiries they may have had identifying with strict practice and confidence. Despite the fact that the Protestant Reformation saw numerous incredible instructors add to one of the most critical occasions in western history, unmistakably Martin Luther and John Calvin left the best inheritance of any. Today, almost 500 years after the fact, we despite everything talk about these men and their contribution in both society and religion. Despite the fact that they are not, at this point here, their work lives on and their thoughts keep on finding new disciples consistently.

Self-Reported Grades, HS Transcripts, and the Law of Unintended Consequences - UGA Undergraduate Admissions

Self-Reported Grades, HS Transcripts, and the Law of Unintended Consequences - UGA Undergraduate Admissions Self-Reported Grades, HS Transcripts, and the Law of Unintended Consequences I was recently at a fast food restaurant , and they had new, larger cups for their sweet tea (the greatest beverage ever invented!), with a new logo on the side and a cool new dispenser. Life was great, as nothing is better than a big cup of sweet tea on a hot summer day in GA, that is until I arrived at the lid section. Unfortunately, no one had checked to see if the old lids fit the new cups. So there I was, still happy about this big old cup of nectar, but a little miffed about not having a lid that fit it. They quickly purchased some new lids, and everyone is now happy with the larger cups and the wonderful tea. I guess you would say that this situation is an example Law of Unexpected Consequences. The same thing, on a very minor scale, has happened with our new self-reported grade chart and high school transcripts. When our team of Evaluators had to analyze each HS transcript as it came in, determine the number of academic grades, and enter in the grades in our system, we occasionally missed logging in a HS transcript that we had. A back-end program was written so that if any HS grades were entered into the system, the HS transcript received field would then get a Yes to fix this human error. This program was just a part of the background script that occasionally fixed an error, and so it did its job and was forgotten. Now we transition to the 2011 Freshman application, when the applicants began entering in their self-reported grades. These wonderful self-reported grades are flowing into our system like clockwork, allowing for an earlier decision timeline down the road. But everyone forgot about that little back-end program. As you can guess, when the self-reported grades started coming in, this caused the system to automatically indicate that the HS transcript was here. Luckily, we caught this situation early and only have a limited number of phantom transcripts, and we are now working to correct this problem! I expect that it will be fixed shortly, any phantom HS transcripts will be wiped out of the system (but the real ones will still show as being here), and we will once again have a status check with the correct information. We are sorry for any confusion, but we know that the great positives of the new self-reported grades will far outweigh any minor issues. Go Dawgs!

An Unforgivable Love Essay Example For Students

An Unforgivable Love Essay My friend never had an easy life. She has been through a lot throughout her life. She wasnt abused physically, but definitely mentally and emotionally. I know her like the back of my hand and she knows me like that also. Were practically the same exact person. I think her problems started occurring in 2nd grade when she saw her mom get slapped in the face by her dad. She didnt realize how bad that was until she grew older (shes 15 at the moment). Her parents fought CONSTANTLY, and they did it so often that their children fought a lot too. Their family mostly communicated by yelling and fighting with each other. They never learned how to solve their problems the correct way which was calmy. In 3rd grade, when she was 7 turning 8 years old, her mom, little sister and older sister were kicked out of their house by her dad and were forced to live in a shelter. The shelter was for women that had problems with their husbands, and of course most of the women there had children. She had to share a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment with two other women. My friend spent her 8th birthday in a shelter with her two sisters. They ended moving back with their dad ,but her mom and dad still fought. In 3rd grade, my friend, her mom and little sister were at her sisters very first horseback riding lesson. While her sister was in her lesson, my friend and her mom sat on a bench and watched. As they watched my friend really wanted to ride horses too. She asked her mom and she said, Yeah sure honey or something similar to that , but to this day she NEVER got her a lesson. In 6th grade, thats when things got very hectic for her. She was at her grandparents house while her dad was out somewhere (at the moment she was living with her dad). She told me that she was watching t. v. when her mom came to her grandparents house. She REALLY didnt want to see her. I forgot why, but she didnt want to. Her mom tried to hard to talk to her ,but she refused to listen or talk to her. She started to run down her grandparents hallway and into a bedroom to try and lock her out. She slipped and fell to the ground as she ran. Her mom tried to help her up and talk to her, but she didnt want anything to do with her. She ran into her grandparents living room and her mom grabbed her arm and fell to the floor and tried dragging her away. Her grandparents helped her and her mom was crying and asking what she did wrong. (She did a lot of wrong things). She told me that her mom left her grandparents house She called her dad and told him what happened and he came home right away then called the police. The police arrived at her grandparents house and as they crowded her asking what happened, all she could think about was her mom. How could a mother treat their daughter that way. She said that she always asks herself that. Her 7th grade year got a little harder. Her parents were divorced in November of 2010. In May of 2010, she said she saw her dad push her mom and then threw their wedding book on the floor with ITS OVER! May 2010 on the cover of it. The thought of it still breaks her heart. I think the hardest thing for her was seeing two people that ONCE loved each other and give life to three beautiful daughters, stop loving each other in a little to no time at all. Of course she is still a little upset about it, but she knows that it was the right thing to do. When she went to her moms house, she would give reasons why she should live with her permanently. Her dad wouldnt do it as much ,but when he gave reasons, they were good ones. Her dad got remarried on April 14th, 2012. That was a good day for my friend because she was so happy and even cried happy tears. Although it was hard seeing her dad with a woman other than her mom she was still happy for him. She was just happy that he was happy with his new life. She was also very happy to have a loving and caring stepmom. In 8th grade, her and her stepmom got super close. During that time period, her mom was around, just not as much as my friend would have liked. In 9th grade she kept in contact with her mom, but was only around when it was convenient for her mom. She began to realize how badly her mom treated her. She was being mentally and physically abused by the ONE person she thought would NEVER hurt her in a million years. I feel so bad for her because even though she was being abused by her mother, she always went back to her. In 9th grade, she asked her mom if she could have about $17. 0 for a whale watching field trip; her mom actually took her to get the money at a seven-eleven over by sweet retreat. While they were sitting in her moms car waiting for her to find her moms wallet, she asked her mom, Why havent you ever bought me horseback riding lessons? and the response she got from her mother affected my friend so badly, she has been considering counseling ever since. Her mother told her that it wasnt my friends passion, she didnt want to waste her money on her and that she wasnt as important as her sister who would ,hopefully later in life, pursue a career in horseback riding. That is probably the most cruel thing you could ever tell your daughter. My friend is still very hurt by that. In the beginning of 10th grade, she decided to trust her mother just one more time. SHe thought that maybe after seven to eight months of not talking or seeing her mom, she might have changed. Well one Friday, when her little sister was getting dropped off at their dads house by their mom, she decided to go out and see her mom. They were both so happy to see each other that her mom began to cry. They both sat in her moms car and talked for as long as they could. They caught up on everything that happened lately. Then as they talked, she made a plan to see her mom every other weekend and they would just go out to see or go to a park or something like that. After they planned that out, they said their goodbyes and her mom left. When she went inside, she asked her dad if they were doing anything for the weekend and he said no so she called her mom. She asked if she could get picked up and spend the night and she said that she would pick her and her little sister up at 8:30pm. It was about 4:30pm after she called and she was so excited to see her mom. She got ready, packed a bag, and waited until it was time for her mom to pick her up. When it was 8:30pm, she kept looking out her window to see when her mom would be outside. It was 8:45pm and her mom wasnt outside so she called her and she would NOT pick up the phone. Her and her sister called her at LEAST 20 times. It was 9:45pm and her mom TEXTED back and said that she was out with her friend, Kathy. .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd , .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .postImageUrl , .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd , .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:hover , .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:visited , .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:active { border:0!important; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:active , .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua63f86f609f6b76eec8a1c4da36027dd:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Meaning of Life EssayShe was SO heartbroken because that was the FIRST TIME in seven or eight months that she actually began to trust her mom and her mom lost her trust, once again. Im sure that her mom loves her, its just shes NEVER shown it. Ever since that happened in October, she hasnt talked to her to this day. She just wished that her mom wasnt the way that she was so she could have a normal relationship with her. Anytime she goes back to any memory with her mom, she wonders, Why doesnt she really love me enough to show it? She just wants the love from her mother that most daughters get. Her mother never taught her how to do her hair, youtube taught her, and her mother never taught her how to do her make-up, her stepmom and older sister taught her. Her mother was NEVER there for her. Now, she has her step-mom, but the love from your OWN mother is unexplainable. Shes felt the love from her mother and thats something that she will never never forget.

Project Management; computer charting

Abstract Since modern business management requires efficient information management, healthcare providers require enhancing the management of patient information. Thus the concept of computer charting emerges. This paper identifies Charting by Exception, popularly referred to as CBE, as one of the most useful modern computer charting systems.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Project Management; computer charting specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Implementation of CBE is a complicated process, but can be effective undertaken through a simple project management model. As such, the paper describes CBE project implementation against the 4 D project management model. This model is preferred for its simplicity as well as ability to track project progress. Introduction Modern business management requires efficient management of information. Within the healthcare industry, the management of patient information is vital as it determines the success of healthcare provision. The need to enhance the management of information has led to the development of computer charting a concept that incorporates the use of IT based patient information management tools. Computer charting systems have a broad based primary objective; however, the overarching aim seems to be improving efficiency in documentation of patient information. This is aimed at increasing accuracy in decision making regarding the patient care. As a result, the healthcare industry accrues numerous advantages from computer charting (Keenan, Yakel, Tschannen and Mandeville, n.d.). The ever changing trends in healthcare information management require consistent changes to existing information management tools. While current computer charting systems ensure increased efficiency in patient information management, they are also time consuming since healthcare experts, especially nurses, spend a lot of time keying data in computer charting systems. This reduces the amount of time nurses spend with patients (Harrison, 2003; Huff, 2004). The need for improved computer charting systems in the healthcare industry is necessitated by the desire to reduce the time spent in documentation. This translates to more time available for nurses to provide patient care. Additionally, other than reducing charting errors and omissions, the need to reduce redundancies in management of patient information necessitates systems change. This therefore calls for the transition from the current computer charting to Charting by Exception, CBE (Jaffe, 2011). CBE is an improved version of the traditional computer charting systems already in the market. Compared to other computer charting systems, CBE offers numerous advantages to tertiary healthcare providers.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Other than creating a legally recognized patient data base, CBE eliminates the need for narrative documentation as it only focuses on variances or exceptional patient information. This is attained through recording information that varies from normal charting protocol. CBE uses standard information management tools such as graphs, sheets, among others. Despite being a rather complex system to implement, CBE is recommended for tertiary healthcare institutions (Jaffe, 2011). Thus, the main objective of CBE is to increase time available for nursing care by reducing documentation time, further enhancing accuracy in decision making for tertiary healthcare providers. As mentioned earlier, CBE provides additional advantages in the management of patient information for tertiary healthcare providers as compared to other computer charting systems available. Additionally, CBE is a complicated system. Therefore, its implementation needs a simple project management model. There are numerous project management models, but according to Fischer (2005), 4 D models are the most preferable since they are not only simple but also help project managers verify their project plans at both the strategic and tactical level. Additionally, 4 D models enable managers to minimize and optimize risks as well as enabling managers to follow project progress while addressing emerging opportunities for change. Project management process The 4 D model is linear and involves four sequential stages. Most projects fail due to lack of a clear project definition. As such, the 4 D model requires a clear detailed definition for the project at hand. A detailed definition for the project includes clear objectives. Additionally, project managers need to identify the desired outcomes for the projects at the definition stage (Park and Meier, 2007). As indicated earlier, the main objective of CBE is to increase time available for nurses to provide care by reducing documentation time, while further enhancing accuracy in decision making for tertiary healthcare provide rs. In line with this, the desired outcome for CBE is to limit the time used by tertiary healthcare providers during documentation. Reduced documentation time implies that nurses have extra time. Additionally, CBEs main aim is to reduce errors and thus improve decision making. To achieve the objective stipulated above requires project managers to set realizable time based goals. As such, since this involves transition to a complicated computer charting system, adequate time is needed to train nurses, manage transition, test and measure its effectiveness and correct changes before delivery. Depending on the size of institution, managers need one to two months to fully implement CBE (Jaffe, 2011).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Project Management; computer charting specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The most difficult stage is the designing stage. Designing largely involves planning how the objectives are to be ach ieved. In this case, a step by step plan seems relevant (Park and Meier, 2007). Appropriate actions which culminate in the implementation of CBE are identified. Such actions mainly focus on testing CBEs viability, evaluation and feedback reporting, as well as incorporating necessary adjustments. To enable this, a project management checklist seems relevant. Such a list not only allows the manager to track the project progress but also record events. In the designing stage, a number of assumptions are made. For instance, the project manager assumes that the healthcare institution charting protocols meets State charting requirements. Additionally, the project manager assumes that nurses understand existing charting protocols. To avoid any conflict with state authorities, the manager is required to consult attorneys as well as human service representatives within that State. While planning is aligned to the objective set, the project manager needs to also estimate the cost for the enti re project. In this case, the cost for training nurses, the cost of the new system, materials needed, contingency plans, the cost incurred while testing and evaluation are factored in. A project of such magnitude involves a number of risks. It is the role of the manager to identify all the possible management and systems risks. Since CBE offers legally valid patients data, there is the risk of using such data in a lawsuit against the healthcare provider. Additionally, since CBE only records variance or exceptions from the norm, it eliminates the need for narrative data, which poses future liability risks. Moreover, time and money budgeting is done on estimates, thus the risk of cost overruns (Jaffe, 2011). Of the four stages, the actual implementation takes the longest time. The Doing it stage involves carrying out the activities according to plan (Park and Meier, 2007). This stage involves training the nurses on how to use CBE. After training, nurses gather all the standard CBE for ms in a specific location. Using a CBE checklist, nurses read each of the patient notations according to the institutions charting protocol and mark against the checklist where patient data matches the existing charting protocol. Any variances noted are recorded in narrative form and entered into the system. A resident physician is notified (Jaffe, 2011). Within the process, nurses also record the progress and challenges. Such records provide valuable feedback to the project manager. With the information provided from the feedback report, the manager leads the project management team in making a thorough review on the success of the project. The purpose of conducting a thorough review is to identify opportunities for improvement. Adjustments are made to the systems design. This provides the manager with a system fully designed to serve the unique needs of the particular healthcare institution (Park and Meier, 2007). The system is thus ready for delivery.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The delivery stage is the final phase of the project. This stage mainly involves measuring the actual outcomes against the initial objectives. The usefulness of the products is evaluated against the previous products. Thus, the manager tests whether CBE enables nurses to reduce documentation time, and whether errors and omissions are reduced. The success of the products is determined by evaluating the extent at which CBE improves decision making regarding patients care. Additionally, managers evaluates whether the time saved is spent providing patient care (Park and Meier, 2007; Jaffe, 2011). Conclusion Despite the fact that computer charting is not a new concept, new trends in information management require healthcare providers to constantly evaluate the usefulness of existing information management tools. Since traditional methods of computer charting fail to address the concept of efficient time management, CBE seems relevant especially for tertiary healthcare providers. Implemen tation of CBE is a complicated project, but the 4 D project management model significantly simplifies the process of implementation. Despite the numerous risks associated with CBE, the system accrues numerous benefits to tertiary healthcare providers. Most significantly, the system increases time available for nurses to provide care to patients, minimize errors thus enhancing decision making. Reference List Fischer, M. Essential nutrient Essay Example

Essential nutrient Essay Example Essential nutrient Paper Essential nutrient Paper Nutrition plays a very important role in maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle and is especially important for young children. Many diseases can be reduced by looking at the nutrition label. For instance, one of the most common diseases among us today is diabetes which can be prevented by monitoring the amount of sugar intake. â€Å"A balanced diet can provide us with all the essential nutrients and minerals in order for growth and normal wear and tear on the body. † If I had to describe my eating habits, I would say I maintain a healthy balance. I eat three main meals a day consisting of breakfast, lunch and dinner along with a couple snacks throughout the day. I always look at the labels and determine which foods aren’t healthy. Also I watch my portion size as well. For beverages, I try to drink as much water as possible and I do not drink any soda or sugary drinks. However, I do drink tea and coffee in the morning. In general, I would say I maintain a well-balanced diet. After reviewing my Food Groups and Calories Report, I have determined I do not receive all the essential nutrients and vitamins I need on a daily basis. Even though I thought I maintained a healthy balance according the report I am not. For the following food groups; grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, protein foods, and oils I am under in every category except one in ounces. For example, the target amount of grains that is needed is 6 ounces while, I am only consuming 5 ounces. Therefore, I am under the targeted amount. Also I learned I lack a lot of fruits, vegetables, and dairy in my diet. I often don’t like a lot of vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. For the following food groups; grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, protein foods, and oils I was under the targeted amount of serving for almost everything except protein foods. In the grains category the targeted amount is 6 ounces while I only consumed 5 ounces. In the vegetables, fruits, oils and dairy categories I didn’t reach any of the targeted amounts. Although I did reach the targeted amount of protein foods which I consumed 11 ounces when the targeted amount is only 5 ounces. Based on my report, I will be modifying my diet in order to reach the essential nutrients and minerals. The steps I will take in order to modify my diet is to keep using the SuperTracker. This tool shows me the food group amount I need on a daily basis and how much I have already consumed. For starters, the first foods I am going to start incorporating into my diet that are full of nutrients are fruits and vegetables. Which would include; green beans, carrots, and raw fruit. Each nutrient plays a very important role in maintain a healthy lifestyle. There are six essential nutrients that we need on a daily basis which are; carbohydrates, lipids, protein, water, vitamins and minerals. According to my nutrients report, I am getting most of the six essential nutrients. One of the nutrients that I am taking a lot in of is proteins; this nutrient provides structure of the bones and teeth. Since I am getting most of the nutrients I am able to stay alive, grow, and reproduce. There are tons of benefits of getting all the essential nutrients needed in our diet. By changing my diet I will have more energy and maintain a healthy weight. Also by changing my diet I am ensuring that my body will maintain structure, maintain and repair the body as well as be able to reproduce. In conclusion, nutrients are a very important part of living a healthy lifestyle. Before this week, I was not aware of how much my diet lacks in the essential nutrients needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, I need to change my eating habits. By using the SuperTracker I was able to identify which nutrients I was getting enough of and the ones I was not getting enough of. Furthermore, by continuing to use this I will be able to monitor my food intake more closely and reach my goal of maintaining a healthier lifestyle. For and Against Criminal Justice Management Essay

For and Against Criminal Justice Management - Essay Example For and Against Criminal Justice Management In any species, whether among humans or lesser developed genus like mammals, reptiles, birds, and even insects, communication is seen as an essential component for survival and growth. The subject of the group discussion is criminal justice management (overview). â€Å"In its broadest terms, criminal justice management is defined as the management, supervision, and overseeing of the criminal justice system. The criminal justice system covers a broad range of areas of justice. It includes police departments, federal agencies, state agencies, the courts, and correctional facilities† (Strayer University 2011) The successful discussion will be referred to as Discussion A, and the unsuccessful one as Discussion B. The writer of this paper was the leader in Discussion A while remaining a participant in the other one. Welcome and thank you for agreeing to participate in this discussion. You are all aware (in different ways) about increasing crime rates in the country. But instead of just punishing the criminals, it is felt that a management system be effectively implemented so that criminals have a chance to get back into the mainstream society and also to prevent individuals with criminal intent (for whatever reasons) not to indulge in such activities. Before moving on to the actual discussion, let me just outline the roles to be played by each member. The three golden rules are listen to the speaker without any bias, not to whisper or talk to the person sitting next to you (for example, conspiring), and when required speak out your mind sincerely and boldly (Bulatao, 1999, 4). There are other do’s and don’ts that need to be followed (Ganguly, 2002). and I shall be strict with these guidelines. Intervention will be necessary if the discussion turns hostile or goes outside the topic. Do not go on repeating what you have once already said and please be sure that you have some facts and figures to back up your points. Participation and reciprocation and important and last but not least, be polite enough to thank the listeners at the beginning and end of your opinions. Being loud and aggressive will not be tolerated, and do not interrupt a person while he is speaking. Irrelevant questions, being depreciative, and exhibiting of emotional outbursts is not a accepted norm in group discussions. If you find another speaker putting across views in a better way, do not get nervous- either accept them or put across lucid and valid arguments as the case may be. I apologize for this long introduction, but hope I have made my points clear? The group as a whole – Yes Leader- Shall we then begin, ladies and gentlemen? Who shall speak first, how about you Ms D? Ms D – Okay. I feel that there are not enough policemen to control crime, especially by immigrants and b lacks in the country. Mr B – I object to that comment. Do you have any figures or even reasons for such a statement? Mr A – No. I am just stating from the information from the media. (The group members begin to talk themselves regarding this matter) Leader – Ladies and gentlemen, please, we are moving away from the core issue of the discussion. You have already forgotten what I

Preventing Animal Abuse

Preventing Animal Abuse 1. Introduction Animal abuse is the form of mistreatment of animal that is often falls into three  categories: neglect, intentionally and unintentionally. Firstly, failure to give  daily necessities to the animal such as food would be classified as neglect. Next,  for intentionally, these people abuse animal for entertainment purposes to earn  their daily expenses or for their own excitement and enjoyment. Some may even  inflict harm on the animal in order to feel more superior or gain control. Lastly,  for unintentionally, these people do not know what the correct ways to treat  animal or they do know that they were actually mistreating the animal. For  instance they felt that there is a need to beat their pets in order to discipline  them. (OntarioSPCA 2009). This report will show that animal abuse is not right hence the purpose of this report is to educate people the various measures preventing or minimising animal abuse. It also cover the different organizations that stop and prevent  animal abuse. 2. Reason to stop animal abuse Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit an act  of cruelty towards an animal don’t stop there. They are at a higher risk and  chance to commit property crime compared to those who do not have any  history of animal abuse (Goleman, 1991). Hence it is very important to stop  animal abuse so that crime rates will not further increase in the future. For  example there was an article stating that Carroll Edward Cole was a serial killer  had murdered as many as 35 women in the 1970s, and was executed in 1985. His first violent act was strangling a puppy (Newton, 2001). Eric Harris and  Dylan Klebod the Columbian High School shooters had bragged to friends  about injuring animals before murdering a total of 12 students and one teacher. On top of that, they set a bomb which could have wiped out 600 people (Cullen,  2004). Furthermore, the number of cases for animal abuse has increased to more  than 65% for the past five years, not to mention that it is wrong for people to abuse others especially animals who cannot even speak or defend for  themselves (Degenhardt, 2005). 3. Measures to stop animal abuse There are a few measures that can be taken to stop animal abuse. First of all,  schools must educate the younger ones the right way to treat animals as it is  important for people to have the right mentality towards how to treat animals  from young. School can do so by conducting lessons and invite organization  like SPCA to conduct talks about animal abuse (Drake, 2010). Empathize that  animal abuse is consider a crime in Singapore which people can be jailed up to  a year or fined ten thousand dollars or both (Tan, 2014).Next, the government  can also stiffen the penalties of animal abuse. With that, people will most likely  not repeat the same mistake as people do not want to experience the strict  penalties (Kim, 2010). Last but not least, before individual or family buy or  adopt a pets, they must think whether they are financially stable enough to own  a pet so that they will be able to provide their pets with daily necessities like  food. Furthermore, ow ning a pet need a lot of commitment, for instance owning  a puppy will need to have a commitment of 10 years or so. They need to think  whether they are mentally prepare to own a pets or it will lead to the neglecting  of animals and that is a form of animal abuse (ASPCA, n.d). 4. Organization that prevent animal abuse There have been different organization against the idea of animal abuse and  took measures to prevent it from happening. Some of the organizations are â€Å"The  American Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty (ASPCA), Cats Welfare  Society (CWS) and Animal Concern Research Education Society (ACRES). These organization help to spread and inspire people around the world to stop  animal abuse through the internet and campaign. 4.1. American Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty (ASPCA) The American Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty (ASPCA) is the  first humane organisation in the Western Hemisphere. The ASPCA work  nationally to help animals from being abused, pass humane laws and share  resources with many shelter across the world. They operate in many  programme areas, such as Anti-Cruelty, Animal Health Service, Community  Outreach and Government Relationship. They help to legislate animal cruelty  laws by lobbying for stronger humane legislation nationwide (ASPCA, n.d). 4.2. Cat Welfare Society (CWS) The Cat Welfare Society (CWS) aims to promote a humane, responsible and  informed society in Singapore so that cat can be treated responsibility. They  actively promote sterilisation as a personal responsibility of cat owners to  prevent further population to increase instead of destruction. For instance  records have been showing that 13,000 community cats were put down every  year, and the root cause of the problem is that there were too many cats being  born. The CSW also work closely with all the Town Council, Housing  Development Board, National Environment Agency and Agri-food   Veterinary Authority of Singapore to resolve cat issues humanely. (CWS, n.d). 4.3. Animal Concern Research Education Society (ACRES) Animal Concern Research Education Society (ACRES) wanted to create a  world where animals are treated with compassion and respect and to improve  the living condition and welfare of animals in captivity. They also educate  people and the public to promote actively community involvement in the animal  protection movement. Furthermore they also strive towards synergistic  partnership with authorities and relative parties (Schweitzer, 2009). 5. Conclusion In conclusion, organizations and society have already started to take action  against animal abuse as research have shown that animal abuse have brought  about a negative impact to the people. Hence I think that animal abuse is wrong  and should be stop and prevented so that the number of case will not increase  any further. A Separate Peace :: essays papers

A Separate Peace A Separate Peace is a coming of age novel in which Gene, the main character, revisits his high school and his traumatic teen years. When Gene was a teen-ager his best friend and roommate Phineas (Finny) was the star athlete of the school. Gene was only a mediocre athlete and is always jealous of Finny. They form a Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session which includes jumping from a tree into a river as its initiation. Eventually, Finny falls from the tree fracturing his leg. This leads to Finny’s death and Gene struggle to find himself. The relationship between these two boys proves my thesis statement; a friend and an enemy can be one in the same. The characters of Gene and Finny are as opposite as apples and oranges. Finny is a free spirit and Gene enjoys structure. The main problem though, is that Finny has â€Å"some kind of hold†(9) over Gene. The fact that Gene lets Finny talk him into things troubles Gene. Therefore, when they form the Suicide Society and jump out of the tree it becomes destructive for Gene because he is cutting himself off from the structure that normally runs his life. With all the time commitments to Finny and the society Gene’s grades plummet. He forms the idea that, â€Å"Finny had deliberately set out to wreck my studies.†(45). Since academics are so important to Gene he begins to resent Finny and he feels that he has to get revenge. This anger leads to Gene jouncing Finny out of the tree. The tone of this story changes frequently. Its changes are bases mostly on Genes feelings toward Finny. Gene often has feeling of resentment and uncertainty about their friendship; this creates a negative tone. Finny on the other hand seems to make the mood somewhat whimsical. For example he beets the school swimming record without ever practicing. He also sneaks away to swim and sleep by the ocean. The tone in this novel is important to the theme because Gene longs to have that same whimsical way that Finny has. However, Gene can never accomplish this and he becomes very cynical at times. Symbolism is also very important to this novel. An example of this is the war; it symbolizes several different things. Finny explains to the head master that â€Å"We’re all getting ready for the war†(15)when asked why he was late for dinner.

Synthesis Paper

For example, Tony Parker is a good person with a good heart wherein he helps those needy people. This comes from his winnings against their past opponents giving support on their charity. The achievement is not only for him but also to those people who need their help. These traits are passing from one person to the other. It could be his son who will continue what he had started. When they grew up, they will know more about the things they haven't done and understand yet. One factor that a person had adapted is also from the environment, the people around who encourage them.Behavior involves responding to or interacting with the environment. The total response mechanism involves systems like the nervous system, glands, muscles and sense organs. The five senses, sense of sight, hear, smell, taste and touch; you will be able to do daily activities. For example, when you are blind you lost your sense of sight. So how could you identify things behind you or what will you do. This lack c an lead you to accidents. Sensation is the process by which our senses gather information and send it to the brain. It is a passive process of bringing information from the outside world into the DOD and to the brain. This works when the sensory organs absorb energy from a physical stimulus in the environment and sensory receptors convert this energy into neural impulses and send them to the brain. A large amount of information is being sensed at any one time such as room temperature, brightness of the lights, someone talking, a distant train, or the smell of perfume. With all this information coming into our senses, the majority of our world never gets recognized. We don't notice radio waves, x-rays, or the microscopic parasites crawling on our skin.We don't sense all the odors round us or taste every individual spice in our gourmet dinner. We only sense those things we are able too since we don't have the sense of smell like a bloodhound or the sense of sight like a hawk; our thres holds are different from these animals and often even from each other. Perception is the active process of selecting, organizing and interpreting the information brought to the brain by the senses. This works when the brain organizes the information and translates it into something meaningful. For example, when he/she is in pain, you comfort him/her.Why did you act like that? This only means that o are worried if something happens because you have a feeling of admiration. Your brain tells you to make him/her happy for him/her to be able to forget about it even for a day, much better for a lifetime. It may seem that learning and memory would be an easy thing to talk about since they're such universal phenomena. But because they're so universal many people often use different words to refer to the same thing and sometimes the same words to refer to different things. That can lead to a wealth of confusion.Learning is a durable change in behavior or knowledge due to experience. This act ually covers a lot of ground. For example, a guy watching a basketball strategy lessons so he can play well to impress girls. At first you don't want to learn more strategy on how to play a basketball but because it has an advantage, you are pursuing to learn. You ask guidance from your friends who knows how to play well or this way which is now commonly used preferably teenagers who were fun of watching videos on Youth. In this way it is easy for them to learn because there are many ways on how to do it.You learn when you really want too, especially when it gives you a pleasing resonantly and others do it for fame. Fame in which from the start they were craving but now they were masters. How will you able to learn when you're too lazy? Laziness is the most commonly reasons wherein they don't have learning specially students. How will you able to get good grades without learning. Types of learning aren't all the same, don't all use the same psychological processes or require the sam e parts of the brain, but they're still learning according to our definition.Memory means by which past experience is drawn on to guide or direct behavior or thoughts in the present. For example, an adult playing basketball and dribbling it like he did when he was a kid 20 years ago. Remembering this times make him remember the good times when he is still young. He could play with his friends at the streets during their free time. Taking a look at the past makes him happy, but there were also experiences which are suppose not to bring out anymore. It might be a painful past or a bad dream you have encountered. It's difficult when you lost your memory where in fact this is one of the most important things.Ever wonder why some people meme to be very successful, highly motivated individuals? Where does the energy, the drive, or the direction come from? Motivation is an area of psychology that has gotten a great deal of attention. You are motivated by your family, friends and of course God. For example, a guy who wants to play basketball. He plays because he was motivated by his friends to gain fame and impress someone whom he admires most. So he practices during his break time. Motivation helps you also gain self confidence facing unknown people around you. You also don't feel that tired and helpless. The reason is cause we all want to be successful, we all want direction and drive, and we all want to be seen as motivated. Consciousness is the awareness of external events, internal sensations, the self, and thoughts about experiences. The conscious state is a state of awareness where the mind knows exactly what it is thinking of. We can be highly conscious, or unconscious. We get drowsy as we wake up in the morning getting more aware of our thoughts and feelings. High-level of awareness in the conscious state involves controlled processing, where attention is most alert and selective, allowing us to focus.Sleeping is essentially important to us because our mental and physical functioning can deteriorate if we go without it for extended period. Our sleep and wakefulness are regulated in accordance with our external events. For example, you play basketball last day with your friends; you are really tired because you like your team to won against you're opponents because they were strong combination also. Because of that, you sleep early but wake up in the morning late. Your body needs rest to gain back the energy you had used the other day.Intelligence has been defined in many different ways such as n terms of one's capacity. It can also be more generally described as the ability to perceive and retain knowledge. For example, for your team to be able to win in a basketball, you and your teammates are supposed to have knowledge on how to do that or to do this especially defends and offensives. Within the discipline of psychology, various approaches to human intelligence have been adopted. The psychometric approach is especially familiar to the general public, as well as being the most researched and by far the most widely used in practical settings
